When it comes to high end exotic cars, blue blood is expected, and that most often means lots of cylinders. A V10, a V12, the more, the better. Well, until now, because Jaguar is trying something new for its upcoming C-X75 super sports car. The car was unveiled 2 years ago (our pic) as a plug-in hybrid with 2 turbines, but the production model may come with a… Four cylinder. Just a like a base Ford Focus? No, far from it. More like a pure race engine. How does a 10,000 RPM redline sound? How about a supercharger and a turbocharger on the same engine? This is about a small engine, but with very big horsepower. According to Autocar, Jaguar is talking about a 500-hp 1.6-liter inline-four!
Nothing is sure at the moment though. The car is still in development’s stage, but the small engine may prove to be a great solution that may turn around the whole supercar market. A small four is considerably lighter and more compact than a V12, and somehow, this should make the car better. Yet, you may worry about sound. A V12 makes music to enthusiasts. There’s no way a 4-cylinder could ever match it. Or maybe at 10,000 RPM?
